Leaf Painted Samurai

The facings were also done in the cotton print and allowed to peek out like a piping.

Leaf Buttons are from JJ Handworks

The November 2003 Issue Sew News magazine has an article I wrote on Leaf Painting. In addition to the table runner and napkins in the article I constructed the Samurai Shirt & Trousers to coordinate with the Fall theme accessories.

I used Ivory Jacquard Rayon for the body of the shirt and trimmed it out with Multi Leaves - Earth cotton print; 5 colors of metallic textile paints: Russet, Copper, Gold, Olive and Bronze.

Primrose Gradations Samurai

We teamed this luscious fall toned fabric with Diane Ericson/ReVisions Stencils "Fall Leaves" and closed it up with a new button from JJ Handworks Fimo Buttons made especially for this project.

Sashiko Samurai

Pat Thomas from Raleigh, North Carolina, sent us these wonderful pictures of her rendition of the Samurai Shirt & Trousers. The detailed sashiko stitching in the pieced navy band is done in red and gold and bordered by a gold ribbon with red accents. Thanks Pat!

Joyce Giosso's Samurai

Issue #80 of Threads magazine has Marcy Tilton's Fall Pattern Review. Joyce Giosso of Hayward, California, constructed the Samurai Shirt & Trousers for the review. Fabrics with a very sashiko-like flavor were used.

Lee Anne's Samurai Shirt

This wonderful moons and stars batik rayon made a fun Samurai Shirt. Along the edges a did a simple decorative stitch with Madeira Variegated Metallic thread. Swirler buttons act as the perfect closure. Make your own with our beautiful batik rayon!
